Maiden Voyage
by Kate D., friend
We decided to name our new boat, even though it isn’t as common to name smaller boats, but we felt it was important to name ours “Little Mac,” after my grandfather (nicknamed Mac). My grandfather was the one who truly introduced me to boating and he holds a very special place in many of my boating (and childhood) memories.
Shortly after our big purchase, we were blessed with the perfect weather day to take our boat, “Little Mac”, out for its maiden voyage. We had the towels and coolers packed, did all of the necessary safety checks and set sail on Lake Monona. It was one of those moments that I will always treasure. Here we were, my newly married husband and I, officially starting our own adventure (and love) with boating… together. I couldn’t have been happier. I not only vividly remember the happiness and contentment I felt at that moment, but I also vividly remember what I was wearing that day – a navy sundress with straps that tied with a bow.
