The Dress
by Mary B., sister
How could I have found THE dress after only trying on three? Could this really be the dress that would transform me into a bride? We decided that I should try on more dresses before making a decision. After getting in and out of four or five more dresses, I knew that they all would come up short when compared to the earlier dress. It was the one. I knew that my sister and mom agreed based on the genuine smiles on their faces.
I walked out into the main room of the salon in what I was now referring to as “my dress”. I sashayed past my dad and stood in front of a full-length mirror. I could see his smile and beaming pride in the reflection. My consultant placed a veil on my head and handed me a bouquet of flowers to complete the look. I was now more convinced than ever that this was how I wanted to look when I walked down the aisle to meet my soon-to-be husband. And as I turned around, I knew that my family felt the same. My dad had tears welling in his eyes and my mom and sister had excitement that shined through in their smiles. That was the moment I knew that not only was this the right dress but also how proud, supportive and loving my family was of this wedding and me.
When I stepped into the dress on my wedding day all of the same emotions came over me. I was the bride I’d always envisioned, and was more elated than in any dream to walk down the aisle to meet Dan at the altar. They both were truly the one.
